ISLAM OVER THE WORLD : ISLAM, RELIGION WITH THE MOST RAPID GROWTH IN EUROPE

Over the last 20 years, the number of Muslims in the world has been rising gradually. Statistics for the year 1973 indicate that the world population of Muslims was 500 million; present, this figure has reached 1.5 billion. Today, one of every four people is Muslim. It is probable that the Muslim population will continue to increase and that Islam will be the largest religion in the world. Continuous improvement is not only due to the growing number of people in Muslim countries, but also the number of people convert to Islam, which continues to increase, a phenomenon that stands out, especially after the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11 September 2001. This attack, which was condemned by everyone, especially Muslims suddenly have directed the attention of people (especially Americans) to Islam. People in the West are talking a lot about what kind of religion Islam is, what the Qur'an says, what obligations come with being a Muslim, and how Muslims demanded carry out its responsibilities in life. This interest naturally has prompted an increasing number of people are turning to the Islamic world. Thus, the commonly heard after the events of 11 September 2001 that "this attack will change the course of world history", in some cases, have started to look true. The process of return to religious values and spiritual, which experienced the world for a long time, has become keberpalingan to Islam.

It's really extraordinary happens can be observed when we studied the development of this trend, which we came to know through the newspapers and on television news. This development, which is generally reported as just one part of the day's agenda, are actually very important that the values of Islam have begun to spread rapidly throughout the world. In parts of the world, Islam is at its rapid growth in Europe. This development has attracted greater attention in recent years, as demonstrated by the many theses, reports, and writings about "the position of Muslims in Europe" and "dialogue between European society and Muslims." Along with these academic reports, mass media has carried frequent reports about Islam and Muslims. The cause of this interest is the ongoing development of the Muslim population figures in Europe, and the increase can not be only due to immigration. While immigration certainly has had a significant effect on the growth of the Muslim population, but many researchers have addressed this matter for quite another reason: high conversion rates. A story on NTV News on June 20, 2004 under the title "Islam is the fastest growing religion in Europe" discusses a report issued by the French domestic intelligence agency. The report stated that the number of converts to Islam in Western countries increasingly continue to grow, especially after the events of September 11 attacks. For example, the number of converts to Islam in France increased by 30 to 40 thousand in the last year alone.

The Catholic Church and the Islamic Development

Roman Catholic Church, headquartered in Vatican City, is one of the institutions that follow the phenomenon of religious conversion trend. One subject in the October 1999 meeting of the European synod, which was attended by nearly all Catholic priests, was the seat of the Church in the new millennium. The main theme of the conference was the rapid growth of Islam in Europe. The National Catholic Reporter reported that some radical individuals stated that the only way to prevent Muslims' gaining power in Europe was to stop tolerating Muslims and Islam, among other more objective and rational emphasize the fact that since the two religions believe in one God , there should be no gap for any conflict or struggle between them. In one session, Archbishop Karl Lehmann of Germany stressed that there is more internal pluralism within Islam than is known by many Christians, and statements about radical Islam has no basis in fact. (1)

Consider the position of Muslims in the time to explain the position of the Church in the new millennium is appropriate, considering that a 1999 United Nations shows that between 1989 and 1998, Europe's Muslim population increased more than 100 percent. It is reported that there are about 13 million Muslims living in Europe today: 3.2 million in Germany, 2 million in the UK, 4-5 million in France, and the rest scattered in other parts of Europe, especially in the Balkans. This figure represents more than 2% of the total population of Europe. (2)

Awareness of Religion in Muslim circles Rises in Europe

Related research also revealed that along with the increasing number of Muslims in Europe, there is a growing awareness in the running of religion among the students. According to a survey conducted by the French newspaper Le Monde in October 2001, compared to data collected in 1994, many of the Muslims continued to pray, go to the mosque, and fasting. This awareness is seen much more among university students. (3)

In a report based on foreign media in 1999, the magazine stated Aktüel Turkey, Western researchers estimate in the next 50 years Europe will be one of the major centers of Islamic development.

Islam Is an Inseparable Part of Europe

Along with this sociological and demographic research, we also must not forget that Europe has not become acquainted with Islam only recently, but also Islam is actually an integral part of Europe.

Europe and the Islamic world has been in close contact with each other for centuries. First, the state Andalusia (756-1492) in the Iberian Peninsula, and later during the Crusades (1095-1291), as well as mastery of the Balkans by the Ottoman (1389) allows the reciprocal relationship between the two societies. Many historians and sociologists assert that Islam is the main trigger displacement of dark medieval Europe to the brilliance of its Renaissance. At a time when Europe was backward in medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and in many other fields, Muslims have a vocabulary vast knowledge and great ability in building.

Unite on Common Ground: "Monotheism"

The development of Islam is also reflected in the development of inter-religious dialogue recently. These dialogues begins with the statement that the three monotheistic religions (Islam, Judaism, and Christianity) have a common beginning and can meet at a common point. Such dialogues have been very successful and have an important rapprochement, especially between Christians and Muslims. In the Qur'an, Allah tells us that Muslims invite the People of the Book (Christians and Jews) to unite on a mutually agreed basis:

Say: "O People of the Book, let (hold) to a sentence (decree) that there is no dispute between us and you, that we worship none but Allah and not associate any partners with Him, and not (also) some take one others as lords besides Allah. If they turn away, say: "Bear witness that we are the ones who have surrendered (to Allah)." (Surah Ali 'Imran, 3: 64)

All three religions believe in one God who has the same beliefs and moral values of the same. Believing in the existence and oneness of God, the angels, the Prophet, the Last Day, Heaven and Hell, is a central tenet of their faith. In addition, self-sacrifice, humility, love, tolerance, respect, compassion, honesty, avoiding wrongdoing and unfair, and acting according to conscience are all are traits commonly accepted moral together. Thus, because the three religions are on equal footing, they must work together to eliminate hostility, war, and suffering caused by anti-religious ideologies. When viewed from this perspective, inter-religious dialogue holds a much more important role. A number of seminars and conferences that bring together representatives of these religions, as well as the message of peace and brotherhood that resulted, have continued regularly since the mid-1990s.

Good News about the coming of the Golden Age

Taking into account all the facts, it was revealed that there is a strong movement toward Islam in many countries, and Islam is increasingly becoming the most important subject for the world. This development shows that the world is moving towards a completely new era. That is an age in which, God willing, Islam will gain an important position and the Qur'an's moral teachings will spread widely. It is important to understand, a very important development has been announced in the Qur'an 14 centuries ago:

They wished to extinguish light (religion) of Allah with their mouths (sayings) them, and Allah does not desire other than perfecting His light, though the disbelievers dislike. He it is Who has sent His Messenger (with a) guidance (the Qur'an) and the true religion to win him over all religion, although the idolaters do not like. (Surat at Tawbah 9: 32-33)

The spread of Islamic morality is one of the promises of God to those who believe. In addition to these verses, many hadith of our Prophet Muhammad asserts that the Qur'an's moral teachings will prevail. In the last days before the end of the world, mankind will experience a time where tyranny, injustice, falsehood, fraud, war, hostilities, disputes, and rampant corruption of morals. Then will come the Golden Age, in which these moral teachings began to spread among people like a rising tide wave and eventually covers the entire world. A number of hadith, the scholars also review the hadith, described as follows:

During [period] is, my people will live a wealthy and free from anxiety that they have never experienced anything like it. [Land] will issue a harvest and will not hold back anything and wealth at that time will be plentiful. (Sunan Ibn Majah)

The inhabitants of heaven and earth ... will be pleased. Earth will pull out all the growth, and the heavens will pour rain in abundance. Because all the good that God will pour to the inhabitants of the earth, the people who are still alive hope that those who have died to live again. (Muhkhtasar Tazkirah Qurtubi, p. 437)

The earth will change as a silver tray growing vegetation ... (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Earth would be covered by equality and justice, as previously covered by oppression and injustice. (Abu Dawud)

Justice will prevail to such an extent that every possession taken by force will be returned to their owners; further, something that belongs to someone else, even if it rests within one's teeth, will be returned to its owner ... Security will permeate all over Earth, and even a few women can Hajj without the company of men. (Ibn Hajar al Haitsami: Al Qawlul Mukhtasar fi `Alamatul Mahdi al Muntazar, p. 23)

Based on the above statements, the Golden Age will be a time in which justice, prosperity, abundance, prosperity, security, peace, and brotherhood will dominate human life, and is a time when people feel love, self-sacrifice, airy chest, affection, and loyalty. In his sayings, our Prophet SAW said that this blessed period will take place through the medium of Imam Mahdi, who will come in the End Times to save the world from chaos, injustice, and moral collapse. He will destroy the ideologies that do not know God and stop the rampant injustice. In addition, he would like to establish the religion of our Prophet SAW in the future, making the moral teachings of the Qur'an includes human beings, and establish peace and spread prosperity throughout the world.

The rise of Islam is being experienced the world today, and the role of Turkey in the new era are important signs that the period announced in the Qur'an and in the hadith of our Prophet is very close. Great we hope that God will let us witness this blessed time.
